I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted. Life had other plans for a bit, and this painting took longer than expected. Today I’m excited to share Arizona Dreaming. I’m keeping the description short here, but feel free to ask if you’d like to know more.
This painting began as a clear inner image that arrived before any plan or sketch. I kept seeing a woman as an oversized silhouette, set against red rock and a sky that felt more like a moment than a place. It stayed with me until I followed it onto the canvas.
The landscape references the Palatki Heritage Site and surrounding Sedona terrain, but it is not intended as a literal or realistic depiction. Instead, the environment becomes a symbolic and energetic space.
Many elements within the painting emerged unintentionally and nothing in this painting was forced. The rock formations began to resemble the profile of a tiger. Subtle faces and eyes appeared within the rocks as I painted, revealing themselves organically rather than by design. These hidden forms represent ancestors, spirit guides, and unseen companions—those who walk alongside us across lifetimes and timelines.
Arizona Dreaming lives in the space between memory and vision, waking and dreaming. It reflects my belief that certain places carry their own frequency, and that when we slow down enough, they meet us there. This piece is an invitation to enter that stillness and feel what can’t be explained.
This piece will be on display @kavaandcanvas if you are in the area and would like to see it in person.
